the dream
The siren appeared like God’s holy bride
And sat down by the waterside.
We talked for a while and got along fine,
The earthly mixing with the divine.
She said I can fulfill all of your needs
For love and beer and rosary beads.
I said if you please it won’t take too long.
I’d like a sentimental country song.
She just walked away.
Then appeared two drunken wrecks.
I said what poison did you put in your necks?
Oh the drugs are good but the side effects,
We drank it anyway.
Then I said would you sing along
To my sentimental country song?
They just walked away.
Jesus and Elvis they came along.
I said you must be Jesus but I could be wrong.
Shall we the sermon or shall we the song?
We all agreed about that.
Jesus spoke in words of love
And looked up to the heavens above.
Said the sky is so blue and so is the moon
And that’s my idea for a brand-new tune.
Elvis, he just smiled.
Then I said there’s nothing wrong
With a sentimental country song.
I say it again there’s nothing wrong.
I turned round, they were gone.
I guess by now you know it’s a dream
But I still want them on my team.
And as I turn and pull the light
I know I’ll see them all tonight.
Still I say there’s nothing wrong
With a sentimental country song.
One day they’ll sing it with me.
One day they’ll sing it with me.
